Exploring Images in the 21st Century Classroom

Hello everyone!
This morning as I was packing away holiday items and rearranging a bit, I found myself thinking that it might be fun to add "walls" to our "windows" idea! I wonder what special things you have on your walls?

So, I took a few photos of special things on our walls. One is shown here in this post, and more are located here:

I notice my last post got "jumbled"??? the "I love inspirations and thanks again and holly should be at the end -- not in the middle of Marianne's quote?
not sure how that happened.

Love it! It reminds me of this that I used to have on my wall -- initially apparently falsely attributed to Nelson Mandela, but actually written by Marianne Williamson -- a quote I still favor today:

There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
I love inspirations!
Thanks again,
holly
We are all meant to shine... And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others."

It reminds me very much of this quote by Jan Phillips: "No matter what our efforts to inform, it is our ability to inspire that will turn the tides."

I have had this poster for about 30 years - college to office job to school room -
it expresses one of my main goals for my students.

Hey, Mary, I'm curious too.

OK, I'm curious... Why nothing on your walls? Is this a personal choice? ...because you're in transition?
I cannot imagine living for long with nothing on my walls. I am reminded of a story -- a family from Afghanistan that I used to tutor -- and used to tutor at their home. During certain lengthy holidays, they would remove nearly all of the limited items they had on their walls -- they explained as best they could that this was meant to be a time of deep reflection, and that as many distractions as possible should be removed ... but a few weeks later, those items were back again (until the following year's ritual).

When I travel for any length of time (even more than a few days) I feel this "need" for something displayed (I've been known to tape things to the mirrors during TESOL Conferences, for example). I wonder what this says about me? [I already know that I'm odd in other ways! grins!]
thanks for the post and the interesting looking bookcase photo!

Very good idea, Holly! I don't have anything on my walls, so I thought that I couldn't participate...After having a look at Gabriela's photos though, I decided to take a picture of my book case and upload it to Flickr. You can see it here http://flickr.com/photos/maryhillis/3209339672/

I found the "little artist" at www.flickr.com/photos/smallandround/237795197/in/photostr... I think it is an add for flicker toys or something. The same photo Holly described came up when I went to see Gabriela's pictures.

My Walls - The Sea

This picture has been in my family (on my mother's side) for five generations. I don't know whether you can see well (the light is all wrong), but it is stormy sea. You can also see some rocks and a piece of land. When I read Robinson Crusoe for the first time, I imagined that was the island he landed on.
There are two more pictures tagged My Walls in my Flickr stream:
