Exploring Images in the 21st Century Classroom

Wow, what a pleasure to see that our connections, our hard work were all worth it. From the feedback we got from the Images4Education members, we still have gas, ideas, brilliant minds for much more! So let us keep exploring visual tools and ideas that can enhance our 21st century classrooms.

Natasa started with this idea, and many of us echoed it. We are not going anywhere!
We are already here, connected.

Many educators here have expressed the wish to keep our space active through monthly topics that might be helpful, useful in our professional scope. So, here's the idea for the month of March:

- For the ones who haven't joined, our social bookmarking community, please, join us there at
http://groups.diigo.com/groups/images4education . This is where we've been sharing and keeping our resources that we find useful. There are real treasures to be explored there!

- How about taking this month to explore ONE TOOL that you haven't had the chance to do during our session? You can browse through our http://groups.diigo.com/groups/images4education, http://images4education.pbwiki.com/, or http://images4education.ning.com/forum/topics/tools-using-images

- Share the tool that you explored here, its advantages and disadvantages for the classroom.

How does that sound to you all?

Mindmeister Mind Mapping

Her's an invitation to collaborate in the Global Community Web 2.0 Tools & Your PLE/PLN Mindmeister Mind Map at http://www.mindmeister.com/17120340. Please pass the public access URL along if you're interested.

I will be using this approach for an upcoming live presentation for participants to interact and share. It will replace the old "Introduce Yourself" via text msg during presentations, courses, conferences, etc. It's more interactive/collaborative, not to mention easily accessible.

Mindmeister mind mapping is very much like using theBrain (http://thebrain.com/) or Prezi (http://prezi.com/) for presentations.

Have fun and I look forward to your sharing and collaboration.

Better late than never. I have created this glog and sent to my wonderful friends to honor their International Women's Day. Only now did I remember I should post it here too because I used (Glogster) one of my favorite tools that I happened to know about during the amazing Webtools4BrazilianEducators course by Carla. Hope you like it. Congratulations. You are all simply marvelous.

Gilmar, You have done some great things, I can't wait to try them all- but also feeling overwhelmed, but I should just get over that and start, right? I think I will take a look at all 3 you tried with issuu being first, then photopeach and then glogster. Thanks!

I am glad you've liked what I've been doing. Don't mention feeling overwhelmed because I'd start crying - lol. I have said many times I do get lost and have a lot of difficulty to focus - a Gemini problem. So... there are times I'll spend the whole morning reading a single post and then something happens and I manage to actually create something. Don't follow me, though. I really intend to be more organized as I believe this will long make my life easier. But then again - this is my way and to quote a famous song "I am what I am and what I am needs no excuses " (lol). Keep in touch!

Hi Carla and All!
I was definitely fascinated by ISSUU. The first use that came to my mind was as a showcase for my students' pieces of writing. I had uploaded them to the files section of our Yahoo Group (with their permission, of course) but this looks much more attractive, with the aditional benefit that it can be shared with others, and trigger some kind of worldwide collaborative work. Who knows? The sky's the limit when it comes to the potential of web 2.0 tools for education.
Anyway, this is what I've come up with:

Hi Maria Rosario...
Congratulations! I've loved your production here. I am also in love with "issuu" and can see a number of possible uses with my groups. Keep sharing.

Maria,

Just loved it and shared with a friend of mine who will soon start teaching his online writing course. What a wonderful visual way to share your students pieces of writing. Thanks for sharing it here with us.

Dear Carla, Gilmar and All,

Thank YOU for sharing your knowledge and experience so generously. It was on this page that I learnt about ISSUU and so many other tools.

I'm delighted you like my humble production. A friend told me it would be a good idea to add pictures to illustrate the stories, and ask students to upload their work themselves. I see a lot of potential in this tool!

Hi Maria, I think ISSUU might be great to use in our high school--using the scientific element HELIUM, I uploaded 13 docs to MY LIBRARY in ISSUU and now I don't know what to do to publish it?! Can you help me, I keep looking at any kind of directions on ISSUU and haven't gotten any help or knowledge about how to make the 13 docs into ONE PUBLICATION--help, if you can, thanks! BJ

I did this with

WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH MARCH 2009 on PhotoPeach

I have got to try all these new tools that people have been talking about. Yet, I chose to do a cartoon first. This Xtranormal cartoon revises some of the vocabulary I did in my Proficiency class. The sound is not very clear (you can't teach a machine to talk like an actor).

I am curious about it - is there any problem here? Could it be my machine? I can't see anything.
